Not exactly Inktober, since it’s digital work, but as close as I get to inks lately. This is my tee shirt design for JordanCon.org for the 11th JordanCon convention in Atlanta April 26-28, 2019 celebrating Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time Series. For WoT fans, you’ll recognize that this Con theme is a play on the name of the arch nemesis, Shai’tan. In the series, it is believed that using his name invites his attention, “inevitably bringing ill fortune at best, disaster at worst…” I initially toyed with ideas of actually portraying Shai’tan… but he isn’t really described in the books, and after thinking about a tag line, “Touch of the Dark One,” the concept just kind of fell into place. The seven circles, seals on Shai’tan’s prison, are made of Cuendillar… an indestructible material that usually grows stronger when either physical or power wrought force is applied to it. Yet now under the Dark One’s touch they have begun to weaken. These are power wrought seals, as indicated by the glowing lines of power between them.
For the final tee shirt, we decided that the design would read better on red than heather gray. I also decided that the glow along the lines might not print cleanly, so the final design only has power sparks along it. I think the design seems especially appropriate for this time of year, with Halloween approaching. Mwah Ha Ha….
