LIBRA
Yes… I know the Zodiac doesn’t start with Libra… it’s just the first one I’ve finished… and yes, I know I’m posting this just as the sun departs from the sign of Libra in classical astrology, but better late than never.
Also known as The Scales, Libra is the only sign of the Zodiac represented by an inanimate object. Because I wanted to add life to this rendition of the sign, I chose to add some Judaic concepts into the traditional Greek representation, which often associates the scales with the maiden from the preceding sign, Virgo. My concept adds the idea of Justice, and the Old Testament ark of the covenant as the mercy seat/footstool of Yahweh, therefore the seat of Justice/Judgement… thus the two angels harken to Cherubim, but here holding the scales in a similar manner to the Levites carrying the ark. The scale contraption would actually work… what can I say? I’am an INTJ.
Don’t expect all the signs in order over the next few months. Now that I’m moving on from Wheel of Time art, I’ll be exploring several different ideas in fantasy and mythology to see what resonants the most with all of you. However, my intention is to start with Air signs… except I have a great idea for one random sign that I might have to put ahead of the others.
WORKS IN PROGRESS
I’m about to add reworks of several Wheel of Time Forsaken pieces to change them to the original Greek goddesses that inspired my ideas for some of the Forsaken. Several will be more benign and positive than their WoT counterparts… one is just as dark as before. But I’ll be able to sell these. AND… I’m in a bird and snake phase (air and earth, I guess), which probably started with that last piece I posted a month back. I have several cynical, quirky, and slightly sinister fantasy paintings on the boards that featurer one, the other, or both.
Okay, back to the drawing board.
